Tenure-Track Faculty Position

The University of North Dakota is seeking qualified applicants for a tenure-track faculty position within the Department of Atmospheric Sciences. The successful candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses, where the nominal teaching load is 3 courses per year. Demonstrated expertise and enthusiasm for teaching is highly desirable. The candidate will also be expected to develop a program of externally-funded research. The ability to collaborate with scientists within and outside the department is highly desirable. A Ph.D. in atmospheric sciences or a related discipline is required, along with a proven record of publication and external funding. We are seeking in particular an individual with demonstrated expertise in one or more of the following areas: Boundary Layer Meteorology, Hydrometeorology, Climate Systems/Modeling, or Airborne Research. This position will be filled at the Assistant/Associate Professor level, depending on qualifications.

The Department of Atmospheric Sciences is part of the John D. Odegard School of Aerospace Sciences at UND and offers degree programs leading to the B.S., M.S. and Ph.D. in Atmospheric Sciences. UND is a UCAR Member institution. Fall 2012 enrollments include 89 undergraduate and 37 graduate students in these programs. Teaching and research is carried out by 13 faculty members; current areas of faculty expertise are listed at http://atmos.und.edu/Research/Default.aspx. Facilities include a 5-cm wavelength Doppler weather radar with dual polarization capability, a Cessna Citation research aircraft, and two instrumented ground research sites. The program is affiliated with the University’s Regional Weather Information Center and cooperative programs are ongoing with the National Weather Service Weather Forecast Office in Grand Forks.
